A.A. Zharmenov, after graduating from the Chemical Faculty (1976) of the Kirov Kazakh State University, passed all stages of professional growth from senior laboratory assistant, engineer, junior, senior researcher, head of the laboratory, Department of the Chemical and Metallurgical Institute of the Kazakh SSR Academy of Sciences (1976-1993), head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry of Karaganda State University (1985-1987), General Director of the largest scientific and production holding of Kazakhstan and Central Asia RSE "National Center for Integrated Processing of mineral raw materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan".

His scientific worldview was formed under the influence of world–renowned scientists E.A. Buketov and O.A. Songina. Student scientific works devoted to the study of the electrochemical properties of refractory metals, carried out by him under the guidance of Z.B. Rozhdestvenskaya and I.H. Muldagalieva, were reflected in scientific publications of the USSR.
