Al-Farabi Kazakh National University takes pride in its alumni who contribute significantly to science, culture, and society. One such distinguished figure is Layla Akhmetova, a 1976 graduate of the Faculty of Journalism at KazGU, now a Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor at KazNU, writer, and historian.

One of her latest initiatives is the «My Gift to the Motherland» project, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This international project has united thousands of people from more than a dozen countries, inspiring them to preserve historical memory, study the heroic feats of their ancestors, and promote patriotism among the younger generation.

As the project’s author emphasizes, its main goal is to «preserve the memory of the war heroes and pass it on to future generations» (Akhmetova, 2024). Within the project framework, participants share personal stories about their relatives—war heroes—create creative works, organize patriotic events, and produce books and films.

Layla Akhmetova has not only initiated this large-scale project but has also played a key role in its implementation, leveraging her extensive experience as a historian and researcher. She highlights that «it is crucial for young people to know and take pride in the feats of their ancestors» (Akhmetova, 2024).

Thanks to alumni like Layla Akhmetova, KazNU continues to strengthen its reputation as a center of scientific and cultural excellence in Kazakhstan. Her achievements serve as an inspiration for current students, and we are proud of her contributions, wishing her continued success in her academic and public endeavors!
